Miscellaneous adapters for the Canon S40 compact digital camera

These are three adapters to increase the usability of the Canon S40 digital camera. The simple adapter shown in the first two pictures mounts the camera over the eyepiece of a microscope. The camera is set to manual exposure and the zoom is used to adjust to the microscope's image circle. This adapter is a quick and cheap way of taking relatively good quality images with a dissecting microscope.

Different versions of the Fiberlight

The second adapter is a modification of a comercial adapter. It allows standard 52mm diameter filters to be used with the S40, for example neutral density filters to reduce the S40's high sensitivity. It also blocks most of the light from the build-in flash, but still let's enough light escape to trigger e.g. an external (studio) flash.

The third adapter is a simple L-shaped bracket. Simple, yet effective when the camera is mounted on a tripod and pictures in landscape orientation are taken. The lens is centered above the tripod socket, so that the camera can be rotated to take several pictures for a high resolution panorama.
